Superstar of the Week: Bad News Barrett
After week of speculation, Barrett is back to working in the ring. The “bad news” gimmick is alright in my opinion, I’m just not all that crazy about the name change. Bad News Barrett beat Dolph Ziggler on Raw to advance to the semi-finals of the #1 Contender’s Intercontinental Championship Tournament. In addition to that win, Barrett went over Sin Cara on Main Event.
Match of the Week: Bad News Barrett vs. Dolph Ziggler (Raw)
Bad News Barrett beat Dolph Ziggler in a good match that ran just over twelve minutes long. The work from both of these guys is great and putting them in the ring together was perfect booking for the tournament. These two showed what they are made of and why they should be world champions. Barrett winning was the right decision and he’s my current pick to win the tournament. I’m certainly looking forward to Barrett vs. Sheamus on tomorrow’s Raw.
The Highlight: Evolution vs. The Shield Set For Extreme Rules
This is perfect booking for Extreme Rules. The Shield’s face turn came as a shock to me, but it sets them up to take on former allies such as Triple H and Randy Orton. As for the actual match, I think it could be the best match on the card. It’s hard to say who goes over as WWE could go with a few situations. One scenario would have The Shield lose because of dissension and leads to Roman Reigns’ big breakout moment. The other scenario would have The Shield win and continue to be pushed as a powerful face team for just a little bit longer. I’m going to end this section by asking this, will a stipulation be added?
The Lowlight: Overused Matches
There are many matches and feuds that have been used too many times, making fans tired of watching it. This week, two matches jumped out at me as overused. Santino Marella and Fandango have competed in a singles or mixed tag team match seven times since February. Los Matadores have faced 3MB in fourteen television matches since their debut last fall. Surely there is something else WWE can come up with a filler match or for Superstars.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan vs. Kane Will Happen At Extreme Rules
This prediction is simple. With Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista facing The Shield at Extreme Rules, Kane is the only reasonable person to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Kane finding his “inner monster” once again makes the likely match a little bit more intriguing. And these two have a bit of a history to back up this match. The last thing that needs to be added to this is an extreme stipulation. Whether this match main-events Extreme Rules or Evolution/Shield does is up in the air and will be interesting to see what the outcome is.
