This has been one crazy week for WWE. I’ve expressed my frustrations with many things in WWE over the summer and somehow, WWE managed to erase some of those problems. You’ll see what I mean if you continue to read this, so let’s break down this week!
Superstar of the Week: Roman Reigns
Roman definitely was ‘reigning’ after this week. It all started with a big win over Randy Orton and the summer’s grandest stage of them all, SummerSlam. Reigns would continue to ride the momentum into Raw the next night where he teamed with Sheamus and RVD to beat Orton and RybAxel. Reigns would conclude this week with an easy win over The Miz on SmackDown. It seems his feud with Orton is no where near over, which is actually exciting. This was a huge week for Roman Reigns and I’m glad to see WWE is staying consistent with his push.
Match of the Week: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose – Falls Count Anywhere (Raw)
As a huge fan of Seth Rollins, it was incredible to see these two be able to main event Raw this week. It just makes me smile every time. They had a great match at SummerSlam and then continued the feud the next night with a Falls Count Anywhere match. Both Rollins and Ambrose have proven they deserve to work at the top and I’m very glad WWE has executed this feud properly. I will say I was actually shocked to see Rollins win both matches and I’m anxious to see where this goes next.
The Highlight: WWE Hits “Reset” w/ SummerSlam, Raw, & New Logo
Believe it or not, the new WWE logo played a big part in this week. It’s always nice to see things change every now and then so the logo and other changes were great to see. SummerSlam was a great pay-per-view with great matches and storylines. Ziggler and Paige walked out with gold, Rollins and Ambrose delivered as expected, Wyatt beat Jericho, Stephanie and Brie shockingly put on a good match, Roman Reigns… ’nuff said, and well the one guy who ended The Streak is champion.
Raw felt like it was booked backwards. Anyone else feel that way? But it was booked backwards in a good way, at least in my eyes. Paige, Ziggler, and The Usos are all champions. And they all lost on Raw! Natalya and Cesaro surprisingly won their matches. Stardust and Goldust finally won a tag match. I expected Ambrose to win on Raw, so Rollins winning was surprising to me honestly. Things really seemed fresh and new this week, so that’s why this is The Highlight!
The Lowlight: Brock Lesnar Wins The WWE Championship
Just here me out before bashing my opinion, please. This was The Lowlight for me because I didn’t want to see it right now. If WWE had more top babyfaces and worthy challengers for a monster heel like Lesnar, then sure, I would be fine with his reign. I’m already not a big fan of part-timers, so this didn’t help that case. Yes, I’m a John Cena fan. Believe what you want, but Cena has done wonders for the company in many different areas besides in the ring. It was actually cool to see Lesnar dominate Cena because it was something different. But doing that has kind of booked themselves into a corner with how are they going to handle Lesnar’s future title defenses? He can’t just squash people like that every time, it just won’t work. This is just my opinion and I totally respect that people are huge supporters of Lesnar and his title reign. So I hope that you understand my thinking on this.
Prediction: Night of Champions Card
I brought this up in the SmackDown Open Thread and decided I would carry it over to this week’s article. Based on what we saw this week, here’s a look at the possible title matches for Night of Champions:
- Divas Championship: Paige vs. AJ Lee vs. Natalya
- Tag Team Championships: The Usos vs. Stardust & Goldust vs. The Wyatt Family (maybe more teams?)
- US Title: Sheamus vs. Cesaro(?)
- Intercontinental Title: Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz
- WWE WHC: Lesnar vs. Cena (confirmed)
And here’s what WWE has going as far as feuds on TV currently:
- Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
- Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
- Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho???
- Bo Dallas vs. Jack Swagger
- Mark Henry vs. Rusev
- Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella
Anyone else see a problem here? Obviously not all of these matches will happen, but what’s going to get cut? All titles have to be defended, so the cutting list will come from the singles matches listed above. What do you think?
I’m very excited to see how next week goes. Feel free to leave a comment below and you can follow me on Twitter @cj_blaze24.
