As I’m sure all of you do, I like to imagine dream-scenarios within the world of pro-wrestling. Sometimes it’s cross-promotional matches. Sometimes it’s stars from the past vs stars of today. But sometimes, it’s just a matter of what I’d like to see creative do with a great wrestler that’s already on their roster. In a fantasy-land, this is what I would do with Kassius Ohno to take him from NXT to “Showcase of the Immortals”.
Okay, so here goes: As usual, they’ll have special guests on NXT. This week happens to be the Tag-Team Champions, Team Hell No. Kassius Ohno and Antonio Cesaro team up to face the Team Hell No and win due to a miscommunication on the part of Kane and Daniel Bryan. So they go on to gloat for a week or two, until they get under Kane and Bryan’s skin enough to challenge Ohno and Cesaro to come to Smackdown and face them (in a non-title match).
The same thing happens on Smackdown that happened on NXT (essentially the exact same match for Television) and Team Hell No loses. Ohno and Cesaro celebrate as heels do. The next few weeks on Smackdown they claim that they deserve a shot at the Titles. Eventually they get a #1 contenders match, and win. Their title match will be at the next PPV.
Once again the two tag-teams have a similar match. I imagine these matches would be along the same lines as when Team Hell No & Sheamus took on the Shield at TLC. Matches where you have a perfect mix of feats of strength (Cesaro & Kane), technical wrestling (Ohno, Bryan, and Cesaro) and high-risk stuff (Bryan and Ohno). The kind of match that fans don’t mind seeing a few times over a two-month period, unlike Cesaro vs. Khali … We get it! He’s strong! Now let him show us that he can outshine the main event roster. Anyway, back to the match. So this time around Team Hell No is better prepared and comes out on top. Hence, ending the feud between the two teams. Cesaro goes back to defending his useless … I mean U.S. … championship. Team Hell No move on to the next challengers.
This is the point where we start to see the Kassius Ohno character really shine. For a few weeks, we get some backstage footage/promos of Ohno having a mental breakdown over the fact that they lost a match that he and Cesaro had already won twice before. The fans get a look at how unstable Ohno really is. He makes remarks about how Kane pretends to be a tortured soul, but that the world has no idea what a real tortured soul looks like. If you haven’t seen Kassius on NXT, you should check out a short promo video HERE. The promo is followed by a match against Mike Dalton, but the short promo should make it apparent what I’m talking about with these backstage segments. The guy has an awesome serial killer hitchhiker/Charles Manson vibe going on.
So the feud would start by Kassius costing Team Hell No the titles, it’s believable and it makes sense. I think Kane would be a perfect starting singles feud for him, being the well established “psychopath” in WWE for so many years. They could have a great string of matches, including some of those gimmick matches that everyone loves so much. Hell In A Cell, Stretcher Match, Falls Count Anywhere, Casket (that’d be cool, we haven’t seen one of those in a while). These are the kind of people I want to see in those matches, not the family favorites like John Cena or Rey Mysterio. Two scary dudes in a scary match, I’m tuning in. These matches could span across RAW, Smackdown, and PPV events (lower/mid-card). Somewhere along the way, Kassius would injure Daniel Bryan, further fueling Kane’s need for vengeance. But at the same time, it makes it harder for Kane to focus on winning matches. Kassius is able to get the best of Kane more times than not. The feud ends with Daniel Bryan making a surprise return with his own need for revenge and costing Ohno his last match with Kane.
(I got to this point and realized how long this post was already so I decided to split it up into parts. I don’t like reading really long posts, so I’m going to assume some other people don’t either. I’ll pick this imaginary storyline back up next week or the week after.)
