After many years of lessening interest in watching wrestling, I have started becoming more and more into lately. I had reached the point of being so frustrated with all the lazy writing and wrestlers seemingly “mailing it in” that I kept asking myself why I even kept watching this stuff. When I started writing for this site, it became a good outlet through which to vent about these frustrations. But something happened along the way… I found out that part of the reason why I continue being a wrestling fan is because of its rich history, and it is a way to relive part of my childhood.
Many adults still enjoy watching old cartoons, and I myself will become immune to anything going around me on Christmas Eve when Ralphie gets his Red Rider BB gun. I started to Google all sorts of great wrestlers and tag-teams from the past, and it was as if I was right back in front of our old television sitting on the floor watching WWF Tuesday Night Titans all over again. The names may have changed, but stories keep repeating. I used to complain about that (and I am not saying it is always a good thing), but I have found a sense of comfort with it over the past couple weeks. Part of what keeps drawing me back is the familiarity with the product. We could stop watching wrestling all together and never check any of the wrestling websites for an entire year. After the year is over, it would take us a week to catch ourselves up on all the feuds and storylines. That’s the great thing about being a wrestling fan. We enjoy being shocked, but we also enjoy the feeling that we can lose touch and never miss a beat.
Until next time, be careful or else “You’ll shoot your eye out!”"
