I am going to start doing NXT results with a new twist. Instead of typing out the results, I will give my extended opinion on the matches and segments.
A video package started us off this week highlighting the feud between Sami Zayn and NXT Champion, Bo Dallas. William Regal, Tony Dawson, and Renee Young handled commentary duties this week.
The Ascension def. Adrian Neville and Corey Graves – to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship (6:12)
The opening match was a bit underwhelming for me. The fact that the rematch was unannounced, and only lasted six minutes made it feel less important. But, it was useful in creating a feud between Neville and Graves.
When Ohno was “taken out of action”, I knew the odd pairing of Adrian and Corey wasn’t going to last too long. After the match, Graves turned heel, and attacked Neville. Hopefully their feud lasts over the next month or so, and not just some blow-off match to end it all. On the other hand, The Ascension will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the tag team division.
I would say this is a sign The Ascension will be coming up to the main roster soon, but there’s one problem. The Wyatt Family has only be on TV for a few months. The Shield has been around for almost a year. With Rollins and Reigns losing their titles, there is always the chance of the powerful trio breaking up. Nevertheless, The Ascension will make an impact when they debut.
Tyler Breeze def. CJ Parker (3:20)
There wasn’t too much to this match as they have faced-off a couple times already. It was too short to be the blow-off match of the rivalry, but who knows. There’s a lot of potential in both of these guys, so I’m interested in seeing where they go after the feud. Breeze was on the road this past weekend, going under to Justin Gabriel. Parker’s gimmick is fresh, and he could have several fun feuds with stars in NXT and on the main roster.
Summer Rae and Sasha Banks def. Paige and Emma (5:24)
These divas have been in a rivalry for a while now, and it’s about time they have a tag team match. There wasn’t anything memorable from this besides Summer getting the pin on NXT Women’s Champion, Paige. I expect Summer Rae to be receiving a title match in the near future.
Bo Dallas def. Sami Zayn – to retain the NXT Championship (15:37)
It’s only a matter of time before these guys are on the main roster, and this match was a prime example. The main event was by far the match of the night, and it was full of nearfalls that kept me excited all the way through. Zayn won the title at one point, and then NXT General Manager, JBL, came out and restarted the match because Bo’s foot was on the rope. The match went on for a while after that, which was surprising to me. I figured Bo would hit the spear out of nowhere, but Sami held on until he couldn’t fight any longer. To be honest, I’m shocked Dallas’ reign has gone on this long. I figured this would be Zayn’s moment. Maybe it will lead to a rematch with a big stipulation or something.
(Sorry for the late posting, I had a ridiculously busy weekend. Please leave a comment on what you think of the new format, or if you like the match play-by-plays better.)
