SPOILER ALERT: I do talk about the NXT ArRIVAL Show in this Blog. If you have not seen it and wish not to know the results do not read any further into this blog. Continue on at your own risk.
I know the title is a bad pun on Star Trek but I do feel that NXT is about bringing us the next generation of WWE Superstars. Since there are no more Territories WWE has to build its superstars form within via the Developmental System. Originally it was Ohio Valley Wrestling run by Jim Cornette. Eventually WWE dropped OVW and went to Florida and partnered with Steve Keirn and Florida Championship Wrestling. FCW soon became the proving grounds for WWE talent and in 2012 FCW was rebranded as NXT and was brought to the masses to showcase the future before it arrived in WWE.
The names of young stars that have come through FCW/NXT is very long and full of a lot of amazing young talent and some not so amazing but I’m still listing them because they are featured a lot. AJ Lee, Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Bella Twins, Raw GM Brad Maddox, Current Intercontinental Champion Big E, The Funkadactyals, Curtis Axel, Damien Sandow, Daniel Bryan, Current US Champion Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, The Usos, Kofi Kingston, Natalya, Ryback, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Titus O’Neil, Brodus Clay, Darren Young, Xavier Woods, and Bad News Barrett. This list is just Active Wrestlers on the roster now. The future is here and NXT is The Next Generation of WWE Superstars.
WWE just held its first Live Special for NXT called NXT ArRIVAL. This show showcased some of the bright talent that has yet to make its way up to the main roster and is just buying it’s time until they get the call up. Leading this group is Sami Zayn, who used to be known as El Generico in the Indy scene. Zayn has all the tools to be successful and it seems WWE does have his back putting him with Cesaro and letting them tear the house down time and time again. The Match at ArRIVAL was one of the best you will ever see. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. You will not regret it for a second. Speaking of Cesaro WWE seems to be starting a push for him, beating Randy Orton and having great matches with Cena, Bryan, the Chamber match, and Zayn.
His time may be here.
For every talent like Zayn that should succeed there is always going to be a talent that’s destined to be the Red Shirt guys in Star Trek. The Second match featured In My Opinion one of those talents in CJ Parker. The Guy just has this air around him of being nothing but a career Jobber. There’s nothing wrong with that as you can have a fine career being a career enhancement talent. Just ask WWE Hall of Famer Koko B. Ware. Mojo Rawley was his opponent. His in-ring work needs work but his character has my attention. I’ll be watching him progress and hoping he gets better.
The NXT Divas put on a match that was breathtaking. Emma and Paige showed they are the future of the division and hopefully the Current crop of Divas took notice and decide to step up their game because if they don’t Emma, Paige, Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks will leave them in their dust. The Diva division has been the dark ages for so long but finally there may be light at the end of the tunnel and that light is the Anti-Diva Paige and her NXT Sisters.
I liked Mike Dalton so I want to love Tyler Breeze but so far it’s been kinda hard to do so as he hasn’t shown the in-ring ability I loved from him in his new gimmick. He was supposed to have a match with Xavier Woods but that was quickly squashed by Soon to debut on the Main Roster Alexander Rusev. Rusev is a big big man and has a lot of athleticism, he’s still kinda green but hopefully he grows and he can become a main-stay on the main roster.
The Ascension is a unique tag team gimmick and a team I really like and would love to see on the main roster enhancing and making the tag division even better. It’s probably time to start building someone to take the titles from them because at this point there is no team in NXT capable of doing so, which would allow Viktor and Konnor to move up to the Main Roster. The Fall of Man is an impressive double team move in an era where double team finishers are uncommon anymore. They fought former WWE Tag Team Champions Too Cool at NXT ArRIVAL so maybe that is a sign WWE is about ready to bring them to the dance.
The Final match featured two on NXT’s brighter stars. NXT Champion Bo Dallas Defending his championship against Adrian Neville in a Ladder Match. The match was definitely set up and played out to show the best of Adrian Neville, who is a very talented young High Flyer.
I have dubbed him and his Corkscrew Shooting Star Press the Reason WWE doesn’t need Evan Bourne back. Adrian is well on his way to realizing his dream of being in the WWE and is part of the NXT revolution seeing more and more talented wrestlers coming up to the main roster.
Not everyone could be featured on the show. Men like Aiden English, Colin Cassady, Corey Graves, Enzo Amore, Leo Kurger now known as Adam Rose, and Solomon Crowe are really good talents still to be discovered by the WWE Universe. Women Such as Bayley, Charlotte, Raquel Diaz, and Sasha Banks are talented Divas still waiting in the wings for their chance to change the WWE. There is so much talent in NXT and they are in the best position to succeed or fail they could ever be in with the WWE Perfromance Center. NXT is The Next Generation of WWE, the Future is Bright, The Future Is Now, The Next Generation Has Arrived.
