The Next Mr. Wrestlemania (Part 2)

In part one I discussed why John Cena deserves to be considered the next “Mr. WrestleMania.” Now in the second part of this three part series I will introduce the IWC’s hero to the race for the prestigious nickname. CM Punk is very well deserving of being a candidate in the run. Now it’s time to take a look back on Punk’s WrestleMania career.
Punk was involved in ‘Mania 22 but did not have a match. He was an extra in John Cena’s Chicago gangster themed entrance. He officially made his WrestleMania debut at 23 in a Money in the Bank ladder match. The match was won by Mr. Kennedy. The next year Punk returned to the ladder match and won it. Then, at WrestleMania 25 he became the first ever person to win back to back Money in the Bank matches. At 26, he wrestled in his first singles ‘Mania match which resulted in a loss to Rey Mysterio. The next year Punk wrestled and lost to Randy Orton. His latest WrestleMania match was against Chris Jericho. CM Punk finally won his first singles WrestleMania match to retain his WWE Championship. His next match at WrestleMania will play a huge part in whether or not he is the next “Mr. WrestleMania” or not. He is of course facing the 20-0 Undertaker which is speculated to be a great match. Let’s hope they don’t disappoint.
CM Punk has been in a couple of good matches. However, half of his WrestleMania appearances have been in Money in the Bank matches. Since, he was the first one to win back to back I guess he could have the nickname Edge had, “Mr. Money in the Bank.” Out of his three singles matches I would say they were all good. I think his Jericho match was the better of the three but I’m a huge Jericho fan so that could be bias. I think the big thing holding Punk back is that he hasn’t yet actually main evented a WrestleMania. When I say main event I mean be the last match on the card. In my opinion CM Punk is not yet worthy of being the next “Mr. WrestleMania” yet. He can change that in the next couple of years.

Mr. Wrestlemania will always be Shawn Michaels. No one else was willing and able to pull out all the stops but also realize when his time was over. Cena shines at Wrestlemania and will take his rightful spot among the Legends of Wrestlemania in time, but I don’t think there is anyone else on the roster right now who is going to reach the Legends level.
