Ultimate Canada

Some of the greatest WWE Superstars hail from Canada. Guys like Chris Jericho, Edge and Bret “the Hitman” Hart are Canadians. With a great history of wrestling, many WWE special events have hailed in Canada. Sixteen special events have taken place in Canada. They are Wrestlemania VI and X8, Royal Rumble 1988, Survivor Series 1997, Summer Slam 2004, In Your House: Great White North, International Incident, Canadian Stampede, Breakdown and Rock Bottom; the Big Event, Xperience, No Way Out 2003, Backlash 2004, Unforgiven 2006 and Breaking Point 2009. So I’ll now do the Ultimate Canada.

1. This is not fantasy matches. I picked matches from the fifteen special events held in Canada.

2. I only picked one match from each wrestler.

3. I picked matches based on where they fell on the card. So I picked an opening match, a match that appeared 2nd on the card, and so on.

4. I booked it like a real pay-per-view, so I only picked one title match for each title I used. So while there were many WWE Championship matches I could have chosen from I only picked one.

5. This is just my opinion. Obviously, people’s opinion will be different than mine.

6. I picked 11 matches, the length in total of the 11 matches were 2:25:18.

The site of my pay-per-view is the SkyDome (now known as the Rogers Centre). Located in Toronto, Ontario, the SkyDome hosted Wrestlemania VI and X8. My announcers are Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler. They hosted the 1997 Survivor Series and Wrestlemania X8, among others.

The opening match I went with was the opening match from 1988 Royal Rumble. The match is Ricky Steamboat vs. Rick Rude. The match was 17:00. Ricky Steamboat won by disqualification. The match took place at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. This is the first ever match from the Royal Rumble. While it aired on USA network and not Pay-Per-View, I decided to still include it.

The 2nd match I went with was the 2nd match from Wrestlemania VI. The match is WWF Tag Team Champions Colossal Connection vs. Demolition. The match was 9:30. Demolition won the Tag Team Championship when Ax pinned Haku. This would be Andre the Giant’s final “match” in the WWE. I put match in quotations because Andre never actually entered the match, Haku wrestled the entire match. After the match, Bobby Heenan blamed Andre for the loss. Andre slapped Bobby Heenan out of the ring, turning Andre the Giant face.

The 3rd match I went with was the 3rd match from No Way Out 2003.  The match is Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman vs. Matt Hardy.  The match was 9:31.  The match took place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Matt Hardy won the Cruiserweight Championship by pin fall.  I originally had John Cena vs. Booker T here, forgetting that I had Edge vs. Booker T, too.  Since I want to follow my rules, I had to change one and I went with Edge since this is Ultimate Canada.

The 4th match I went with was the 4th match from In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede. The match is The Hart Foundation (Bret “the Hitman” Hart, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, British Bulldog and Brian Pillman) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust and Legion of Doom. The match was 24:31. Hart Foundation won by pin fall when Owen Hart pinned Stone Cold. The match took place in the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. I had to choose a Bret Hart match in my Ultimate Canada. This 24 minute 10 man tag team match was a very enjoyable match. This was during the time when Bret Hart was heel in the USA and face everywhere else.

The 5th match I went with was the 5th match from 2004 Backlash. The match is Hardcore Match: Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley. The match was 23:03. Randy Orton retained the Intercontinental Championship by pin fall. The match took place at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta.   Mick Foley had two great matches after his 2000 retirement. This match and his match against Edge at Wrestlemania 22 are the two matches.

The 6th match I went with was the 6th match from Wrestlemania X8. The match is Edge vs. Booker T. The match was 6:32. Edge won by pin fall. Why did I pick this match? This match was for a Japanese Shampoo Commercial that is why. Also Edge is from Canada and one of the most prolific champions in WWE history.

The 7th match I went with was the 7th match from 2009 Breaking Point. The match is Submission Match: World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. Undertaker. The match was 8:52. The match took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. CM Punk won after the bell rang after he put on the Anaconda Vice. They copied the infamous ending of the 1997 Survivor Series of Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels. This took place in the same arena, though in 1997 it was called the Molson Centre.

The 8th match I went with was the 8th match from Wrestlemania VI. The match is Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire vs. Macho King Randy Savage vs. Sensational Sherri. The match was 7:52. Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire won by pin fall when Sapphire pinned Sherri. This was the first Mixed Gender Tag Team Match in Wrestlemania history.

The 9th match I went with was the 9th match from Wrestlemania X8. The match is The Rock vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan. The match was 16:23. The Rock won by pin fall.   I knew when I was writing this I had to choose between two Hulk Hogan matches. Would I go with the Rock or the Ultimate Warrior? Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley made me ultimately choose the Rock’s match. The crowd reaction made this the match of the night.

The 10th match I went with was the 10th match from the Big Event. The match is Harley Race vs. Pedro Morales. The match was 3:23. Harley Race won by pin fall. The match took place at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. I could have gone with Trish Stratus vs. Lita vs. Jazz at Wrestlemania X8. I didn’t want my last three matches to be from one show. So it was this match or Jim Duggan vs. Dino Bravo. I chose this one because I wanted one match from the first PPV held in Canada. The Big Event held the WWE attendance record until Wrestlemania III broke it.

The main event is the 11th match from Wrestlemania X8. The match is Undisputed WWF Champion Chris Jericho vs. Triple H. The match was 18:41. Triple H won the Undisputed WWF Championship by pin fall. I want my main event to have main evented the show. Of the 16 events, only 4 had at least 10 matches (Rock vs. Hogan being the 9th I had to have at least 10). Two had Hulk Hogan in the main event. The other was Shawn Michaels vs. Goldust for the WWF Championship at Xperience. I went with this to put Chris Jericho on my Ultimate Canada show.

Want to know who some of the greatest Canadian wrestler are.

Let’s start with friends Captain Charisma and the Rated R Superstar.

There is the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla, Chris Jericho.

Divas Trish Stratus, Natalya and Gail Kim, also.

Let’s not forget the Mountie; yeah I know I’m very smart.

Oh and the Hart Family, the greatest Bret “the Hitman” Hart.

no love for Owen Hart and Edge from Breakdown 98? To this day that is one of my favorite matches, and as far as opening matches go, the crowd was really hot for it. They really kicked the show off well.

    • David Jr.

I wanted the 10 match from In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede. Which eliminated every other Owen Hart match from consideration.

Oh ok, gotcha. Still an awesome match though lol.

Some great picks there David, I really enjoyed a lot of those matches and it would have been a great card
