The next WWE special event will be Payback. Since this is only the 2nd ever Payback, I can’t do the Ultimate Payback. I’ve done Ultimate Michigan, Madison Square Garden and Canada. Since Payback is at the Allstate Arena, I figure why not do one based on Illinois. Chicago is one of the best wrestling cities. This year’s Payback will be the 15th Pay-Per-View/Special Event to take place in Illinois. The other fourteen are Wrestlemania 2 (portion of it), 13 and 22, 1989 Survivor Series, 1994 SummerSlam, the Wrestling Classic, 1998 and 2009 Judgment Day, 2001 Backlash, 2007 No Mercy, 2010 Night of Champions, 2011 Money in the Bank, 2012 Extreme Rules and 2013 Payback.
1. This is not fantasy matches. I picked matches from the fourteen pay-per-views/special events held in Illinois.
2. I only picked one match from each wrestler.
3. I picked matches based on where they fell on the card. So I picked an opening match, a match that appeared 2nd on the card, and so on.
4. I booked it like a real pay-per-view, so I only picked one title match for each title I used. So while there were many WWE Championship matches I could have chosen from I only picked one.
5. This is just my opinion. Obviously, people’s opinion will be different than mine.
6. I picked 7 matches, the length in total of the 7 matches were 2:19:31.
The site of my Special Event is Allstate Arena formerly known as Rosemont Horizon). Allstate Arena is in Rosemont, Illinois. Fourteen of the fifteen events have took place at the Allstate Arena. My announcers are Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon. They were the announcers for the 1989 Survivor Series.
The opening match I went with was the opening match from the 2011 Money in the Bank. The match is Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Kane vs. Sin Cara vs. Wade Barrett vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Justin Gabriel vs. Heath Slater vs. Sheamus. The match was 24:27. Daniel Bryan won by climbing the ladder and grabbing the briefcase. Why not kick off my Ultimate Illinois show with a Money in the Bank ladder match. Daniel Bryan would cash-in at 2011 TLC against the Big Show to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
The 2nd match will be the 2nd match from 2001 Backlash. The match is Hardcore Match: Hardcore Champion Rhyno vs. Raven. The match was 8:10. Rhyno retains the Hardcore Championship by pin fall. While I could have gone with AJ Lee vs. Kaitlyn from Payback, last year. I think this was a very good hardcore match from two wrestlers who made a name for themselves in ECW.
The 3rd match will be the 3rd match from 1989 Survivor Series. The match is Elimination Match: Hulkamaniacs (Hulk Hogan, Demolition and Jake “the Snake Roberts) vs. Million $ Team (Ted Dibiase, Powers of Pain and Zeus). The match was 27:32. Zeus was eliminated first by disqualification for shoving the referee. 2nd eliminated was Ax by pin fall from Warlord. 3rd eliminated was Smash by pin fall from Barbarian. 4th and 5th eliminated were the Powers of Pain by disqualification for double teaming Hulk Hogan. 6th eliminated was Jake “the Snake” Roberts by pin fall from Ted Dibiase. 7th eliminated was Ted Dibiase by pin fall from Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan was the sole survivor.
The 4th match will be the 4th match from Wrestlemania 22. The match is Hardcore Match: Edge w/Lita vs. Mick Foley. The match was 14:36. Edge won by pin fall. While I was unable to put this match on my Ultimate Wrestlemania card (I went with the Triangle Ladder Match). I had to put this on my Ultimate Illinois. This match gave Mick Foley his Wrestlemania moment. Who can forget Edge spearing Mick Foley on to a flaming table.
The 5th match will be the 5th match from Wrestlemania 13. The match is Submission Match: Bret “the Hitman” Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. The match was 22:05. Bret Hart won after Stone Cold passed out in the Sharpshooter. I put this match in my Ultimate Wrestlemania card and I’m putting it on my Ultimate Illinois one, too. A match that ultimately made Stone Cold one of most popular and successful WWE superstars of all-time.
The 6th match will be the 6th match from 2011 Money in the Bank. The match is WWE Champion John Cena vs. CM Punk. The match was 33:44. CM Punk won the WWE Championship by pin fall. How could I not pick this match? While John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at 2012 Extreme Rules could have been a consideration. I had to go with John Cena vs. Chicago’s own, CM Punk. A 5 star match, that was the match of the year in 2011.
The main event is the 7th match from 1994 SummerSlam. This match took place at the United Center, in Chicago, Illinois. The match is Paul Bearer’s Undertaker vs. Ted Dibiase’s Undertaker. The match was 8:57. Paul Bearer’s Undertaker won by pin fall. While I could have ended at CM Punk vs. John Cena, I figured throw this match on to give my card more than 6 matches. Other matches that main evented a show in Illinois and were the 7th match or later, were either a WWE Championship Match, a John Cena match, an Edge match or the finals of a tournament.
Home to the Bears, Cubs and White Sox.
Let’s not forget the Bulls and Blackhawks.
Chicago, Illinois is also a great wrestling crowd.
When Chicago’s own CM Punk won they got really loud.
Austin in the Sharpshooter would not say I Quit.
He would rather just pass out from it.
I think you ought to know.
WWE makes history in Chicago.
